Tips for Hiring Private Security

Private security companies offer security services to individuals, businesses, neighborhoods and events. Before you start your internet search for a local company, e.g., “private security company Ontario CA,” consider the following tips.

Identify Your Needs

Not all security companies offer the same services. For example, some focus on private bodyguard services, while others offer patrol or corporate security. Therefore, you should to identify your needs. For example, do you have a warehouse in an unsecure location that needs guarded? Are you part of a housing association and need to hire patrol and gate security?

Research

At some point in your search, you are going to identify the private security companies in your area that offer the services you need. However,  do extensive research into each company. You need to trust these individuals with your valuable assets. Therefore, seek out other organizations these companies have worked with. Ask them questions about their experiences with their security. You may also discuss cost, but some organizations won’t share their costs with you. Ask about their satisfaction levels.

You should also search the local chamber of commerce and Better Business Bureau. These organizations will give you a customer satisfaction or business rating and identify any outstanding complaints.

Verify Licensing and Insurance

Check your state’s licensing requirements for security companies. Make sure you are working with a licensed company. You should also ask about licensing for the individuals who will work at your property. If your guards are armed, verify their weapons licenses. Finally, get copies of the company’s insurance documents. Learn about what is covered under their insurance, such as injuries, accidents or property damage.

Interview and Test

Interview the company. After you verify the company and guards’ experience and training, you may want to run a test. A response-time test can be set up to show how quickly they respond to an emergency. Also, discuss the company’s availability.

Review the Contract

Go over the contract carefully so you understand how many guards you will be assigned and what their duties are. Also, verify the costs of these services.

If you need to protect assets, consider working with a private security company.
